In order to install Lambda1VR and Half-Life on your Quest, you will need to be familiar with sideloading content on your Quest and make sure your Quest is also in developer mode. If you’ve sideloaded content via SideQuest before, then you can move onto the next section.
If you haven’t sideloaded anything before, or don’t even know what that means, check out our guide on how to sideload content on the Oculus Quest. For the purposes of installing Half-Life, you’ll want to follow the sideloading guide right up until the “Sideloading content from the SideQuest store page” section.
If you’ve followed everything up until that point, you can move on with the guide below.Downloading a copy of Half-Life
The Lambda1VR application itself won’t work without a copy of the Half-Life game files, which you’ll need to copy over from a computer that has the game installed.
Before proceeding, just make sure you have a copy of the original Half-Life game (not Half-Life 2 or Half-Life: Source) downloaded from Steam, on the same computer that you use SideQuest on.Install Lambda1VR
Connect your Quest to your computer and open up SideQuest. The Lambda1VR application will be available in the Games and Apps section. Simply click on the listing, press “Install Latest” and SideQuest will do the rest.
Encrypting a flash drive on a Mac computer. Encrypting your flash drive is different on a Mac because Apple uses the APFS or HFS+ filesystems to encrypt removable media, so you’ll need to format your drive accordingly. To check the progress of installation or ensure everything installed correctly, you can click on “Tasks” button on the top right, and if the app was downloaded and installed correctly, you will see a bar reading “APK file installed OK!!”
However, the Lambda1VR app won’t work on its own. You still need to copy over the Half-Life files.Install Half-Life on your Quest

There are two ways to do the next step, which involves copying over the Half-Life files to your Quest.
You can stay in SideQuest and use SideQuest’s built-in File Explorer for the Quest, but we’ve found it is easier to your system’s File Explorer to copy files to your Quest. For the purposes of this tutorial, we’ll be using Windows Explorer (or Finder, if you’re on a Mac).
1. In Windows Explorer or Finder, navigate to the root folder of your Oculus Quest.
Once your Quest is plugged into your computer, it should show up in your file explorer just like any other hard drive on your computer. The root folder will have folders such as Alarms, Android, DCIM, Download, Oculus, Screenshots and many others.
2. In the root folder, create a new folder called “xash,” without the quotation marks.
You will copy the Half-Life files into this folder in a later step.
3. Find the folder where you installed Half-Life on your system.
On Windows, you can find this at C:Program FilesSteamsteamappscommonHalf-Life.Half Life For Mac Free
On Mac, you’ll need to open your Library folder, which is hidden by default. Click on Finder, then on the top menu bar, click on Go, then Go To Folder, then type the following and press enter: ~/Library/Application Support
That should bring up a new Finder window with Application Support folder. From there, navigate to the folder SteamSteamAppscommonHalf-Life.
4. Copy the “valve” folder.
On both systems, the Half-Life folder will contain a lot of different files and folders. You do not need all of these to be copied to your Quest. In the Half-Life folder, simply locate the folder titled “valve” and copy it.
5. Paste the “valve” folder
With the Valve folder now copied, go back to your Quest root folder. Open the “xash” folder you created in Step 2 and paste the “valve” folder inside. This might take a while to copy across to your system.
Note: You want to copy the actual “valve” folder into the “xash” folder. The structure should look like Questxashvalve when finished, with all the subsequent files within the valve folder.
6. Restart your Quest
Hold down the power button on your Quest to bring up the power menu and select restart.Play Half-Life on your Quest
Lambda1VR will now appear in your Quest library under the “unknown sources” tab. You can stop reading right here and go and play the game if you want — it works fine. However, there are also a few tweaks you can make to improve performance and some of the textures, if you wish. These steps below are optional and listed below.HD graphics
Note: This step will only work when using a copy of Half-Life from Windows computers. Mac users don’t seem to be able to install the HD graphics on their Quest.
The standard install of Half-Life on Quest uses the original graphics. However, every Steam install of Half-Life also includes an HD version that slightly improves the models, most notably the NPCs. That being said, if you install all of the HD models, users have reported it can affect performance in Lambda1VR.
Users on the Lambda1VR subreddit recommend just upgrading the models for the Barney and Scientists files, in order to keep performance steady but upgrade some of the NPCs.
To do this, find the Half-Life installation folder just like you did in the steps above. Then:
1. Navigate to Half-Lifevalve_hdmodels
2. Select all the Barney and Scientist files and copy them.
This includes barney.mdl up to barney05.mdl, and scientist.mdl through to scientist10.mdl.
3. Navigate to the xash folder on your Quest.
Open the xash folder, and then go to Valvemodels.
Paste the Barney and Scientist model files into the models folder. When asked, you do want to replace the existing files, as you’re overwriting the old models with the HD ones.
When you relaunch the game, the updated models should take effect.Improving performance
If you want to improve the game’s performance, especially in more demanding areas of the game, you can follow the instructions from this post on the Lambda1VR subreddit, which involves editing a text file in the xash folder on your Quest.Other tweaks

Like many of my clients and friends, I use a flash drive (also known as a “USB drive” or “Pen drive” or “Thumb drive” etc.), for backing up important files. One of the things I’ve noticed, though, is how many people put sensitive and personal data on these flash drives but don’t even bother to encrypt them. The reason it’s important to encrypt these flash drives is because these flash drives are usually physically small and can be easily misplaced, lost or stolen. If they are encrypted, you don’t have to worry about the data on them being accessible to someone that may have stolen your flash drive or happened to have found it lying around somewhere.
Apple’s Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion” and later operating systems make it easy to do a full disk encryption of these flash drives. You can also easily encrypt Secure Digital “SD” cards too! SD cards are typically what is used in digital cameras to record the images taken with the camera. Most Macs have built-in SD card slots so Apple has made SD cards very easy and convenient to use.
In order to encrypt a flash drive or SD card (we’ll call them “media” collectively from this point onward), you should either start with brand new media or prepare to reformat the media that you may already have. Please note that when you reformat this media, you are effectively erasing it so any existing data (e.g. files, folders, programs, etc.) will be lost! If you’re using existing media, you should consider copying or backing up the data on that media to another media first so that you can then copy it back to the encrypted media later.
The first thing you need to do is insert the media into your Mac. Afterwards, go to your Mac’s Applications folder and locate the Utilities folder. Inside the Utilities folder, you’ll find the Disk Utility application. Double-click on its icon to launch it. You should see a window on your Mac similar to this screenshot:




In the screenshot above, I’ve selected my 8GB flash drive by clicking on it once in Disk Utility (highlighted in yellow). Once selected, I then clicked on the Erase tab. I then changed the format type to “Mac OS X Extended (Journaled, Encrypted)” using the drop down box as shown in screenshot (highlighted in blue). At this point, you can type in a name for your media. Naming your media can help you keep your media organized. After all, most of us have several of media, right? Giving them names helps us keep them straight!
Click the Erase button in the lower right-hand corner of the window and Drive Utility will then prompt you to enter a password before it begins the process to erase and encrypt the media. Please remember to use a password that is not only hard for someone to figure out but one that you can easily remember. Please also note that if you cannot remember the password you used when formatting and encrypting the media, then you will not be able to access the data contained on that media. You will also be given the opportunity to give yourself a “hint” on what the password is. I’d recommend writing a hint that you can figure out but would be meaningless to someone who doesn’t know you.

In a minute or two, you’ll have an encrypted flash drive or SD card ready for you to use! Remember to always drag your media off your Mac’s Desktop to your Trash to eject it properly. This step helps to prevent data loss that can result by simply pulling the media out of your Mac.
When encrypted media is plugged into your Mac, you will be prompted to enter the password you selected in order to access the data on that media. If you cannot remember your password, you can click on “Show Hint” and any hint you may have established while setting up the encrypted media will be displayed to assist you in remembering what the password is.

While Apple’s Disk Utility program is easy to use, there are a few drawbacks to using it to create encrypted media:

Autodesk today announced an update to AutoCAD for Mac, and introduced AutoCAD LT for Mac and AutoCAD WS for Mac. AutoCAD for Mac 2012 will be sold through Autodesk’s regular channels, and will also be the first professional-level application (and possibly the highest priced at $3,995) to be sold on the Mac App store. It will also be available on Amazon.com as part of a subscription bundle.
The releases come later than the rest of Autodesk’s portfolio as the company needed to wait for the release of Apple’s OS X Lion, which allows the program to have additional user interface features.
AutoCAD LT for Mac ($899) and AutoCAD WS for Mac (free) will be available only on the Mac App Store. AutoCAD for Mac will be available August 19 worldwide; AutoCAD LT for Mac and AutoCAD WS for Mac are now available, but LT is for now only available in the US and Canada. Part of the reason for the limited geographic release of LT is because Autodesk wants to test selling it only through the Apple Mac App Store, which requires customers to have an Apple ID. “This is not a normal corporate approach to buying software,” an Autodesk employee told GraphicSpeak. “Buying AutoCAD LT is not like buying a new level in a game or another month of the New York Times.”
Autodesk is also offering AutoCAD for Mac 2012 free to qualified students and educators through the Autodesk Education Community.Autocad Ws For Mac
After the initial release of AutoCAD for Mac in 2010, some industry watchers speculated Autodesk’s commitment to the Mac platform was still in the “wondering if there is a market” stage. Autodesk senior vice president Amar Hanspal says the release of additional AutoCAD products for Mac should end all such speculations: “Bringing AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD WS to the Mac shows our continued commitment to making design more accessible for an ever-greater number of people to shape the world around them.”
Autodesk is seeing market traction for AutoCAD in Apple’s traditional markets; “a heavy artistic skew” is how one employee described it. Architecture and graphic design are the most common uses for AutoCAD for Mac; very few have purchased it for mechanical design.
One early user of the software was Jim LaPier, lead designer at Chesapeake Design Group: “With AutoCAD 2012 for Mac, we’ve seen our productivity increase thanks to the stability of the Mac OS X operating system, and the fact that AutoCAD for Mac is a native application that doesn’t require switching back and forth between operating systems. One of my favorite Mac features is Exposé, which lets me see all the drawings I’m working on at once.”Network licensing
The addition of network licensing in AutoCAD for Mac 2012 allows the product to be available on subscription for the first time. It also allows Revit users who are entitled to download a copy of AutoCAD to select the Mac version.
AutoCAD for Mac 2012 software includes familiar AutoCAD capabilities, such as 2D and 3D design tools, and includes 3D free-form modeling capabilities; 3D visualization and rendering; menu customization; support for LISP and ObjectARX and ObjectDBX applications; and more. The Object Enablers used in the MEP and Civil versions of AutoCAD for Windows are “not yet” available. Most of the commands in the Windows version are now available on the Mac, with the exception of some features based on Windows-specific operating system elements. This “close but not complete” situation extends to the Mac support for AutoLISP, which has a few Windows-specific commands. The new Associative Array command in AutoCAD 2012 for Windows was well received by users, and has been included in AutoCAD for Mac 2012.
Sheet Set Manager is not in this version, but a Batch Publish command is available as a substitute.
AutoCAD LT for Mac follows common native Mac application user interface guidelines, with a familiar Apple menu bar together with a number of workflow-based palettes. AutoCAD LT for Mac also supports native Mac OS X Lion behavior, including Cover Flow navigation and Multi-Touch gestures.
AutoCAD WS for Mac 2012 allows Mac users the ability to share drawings with non-AutoCAD users for review and comment, the same as the versions of AutoCAD WS for the Web and the mobile versions on the iOS and Android platforms. Synchronous co-editing in AutoCAD WS allows users to collaborate on designs across all supported platforms.

The premise is the same: create your avatar, build your dream house, fall in love, watch your children grow - choose your life. As ever, there’s a lot that you can buy for your Sims, from stove tops to guitars and everything in between. You can share creations of your with other players online, and the detail work that’s gone into some of the objects in this game is incredible.
But you could be forgiven for thinking that there should be more in Sims 4 than there were in any of the previous games. Sadly, this is not the case.
There’s no swimming. You can’t make pools and you can’t toss your Sims in, remove the ladders, and wait for them to doggy-paddle themselves into an early grave. That was one of the most iconic things about the franchise up until now and it’s a curious thing to remove. The whole point of the game is to have complete control over the life of the Sim, so why take any of that control away from the player?
The avatars are now much more competent than they were in the last game. You don’t have to babysit them all the time, and while that might be good for some, it still takes away the player’s control.
While the game looks good and runs pretty well, it doesn’t really make up for the issues here. The loading screens take forever when you first start the game. This is a legendary trait of any Maxis game, but this time it’s really something else. If that weren’t enough, the most critical visual component in the game is broken: the camera. How can this be? Did the developers not playtest the game? Do they not realize the camera is broken?
It’s frustrating, because the team and Maxis / EA could have had a smash-hit here. But modern corporate practices are probably responsible for the underwhelming game that is The Sims 4.Where can you run this program?
